Friday night, 16th November 2012, we finally opened doors to the third Startup Weekend Stuttgart (http://stuttgart.startupweekend.org) for over 100 attendees in the Literaturhaus Stuttgart. We were completely sold out. Such a great feeling! After the keynote by Armin Ruser about doing something fabulous with your life and be willing to take risks, the participants directly had the opportunity to pitch their business idea in 60 seconds and convince possible team members of their ideas. Overall, 28 ideas were pitched with a broad range of topics. We had e.g. social business ideas, recreation concepts for stressed managers and classical smartphone apps for different purposes. After voting for the ideas, teams were built around the Top 15. First plans were made; concepts were created and discussed until late into the night.

On Saturday, it was all about teamwork and external input. Ibrahim Evsan spoke in the second keynote about how to be happy as an entrepreneur. Afterwards, our mentors introduced themselves to the attendees. Coming from different backgrounds, they could support the teams with their important expertise and answered a lot of questions.

After an intensive Sunday morning, 18th November, most of the teams used the pre-pitches in the afternoon to test their presentations and get important tips for the final pitches. During these, 14 teams finally pitched their ideas to a jury consisting of renowned representatives of the German investor’s scene.

Eventually, judges selected the team of GiftExplorer as overall winner. Congratulations to Andreas, Maxim and Markus! GiftExplorer offers a service by which suitable gifts are found for friends and family through analyzing their Facebook likes. Gifts can then directly be ordered on Amazon by affiliate links. As main prize, GiftExplorer will get a three-minute explanatory video from simpleshow (www.simpleshow.com), a Stuttgart-based, globally operating company.

As most innovative product, Shake&Dress was selected. The team created a mobile app for easy combination of clothes without endless trying in front of your closet in the morning. Best Pitch won Crowd Impact, a social business idea with a platform to initiate social responsibility. Everyone can contribute to a more social future in their daily life, motivating his or her community to do the same.

To all the teams: Keep the spirit, work hard on your ideas and don’t forget to be fabulous!

For us as the organizing team, it was a really great and successful Startup Weekend which showed that we are following the right path here in Southern Germany. Just keep an eye on StartUp Stuttgart (www.startup-stuttgart.de) where you will find all news and events of the entrepreneur’s scene in Stuttgart and the surroundings.
